Comedy Lifesaver

Comedian Alan Carr helped save a man from death in Blackpool.

The bespectacled camp stand up, who also co-hosts Channel 4's Friday Night Project with shouty fool Justin Lee Collins, was in Lancashire filming a pilot with dancer Lionel Blair of all people.

According to reports on the BBC website, the pair had just finished filming for Alan Carr's End-of-the-Pier Show at the inexplicably popular British seaside resort, when they heard that one man, who'd obviously had just way too much fun, chose to attempt suicide off the North Pier.

By the time the dynamic duo arrived at the end of the pier the man was apparently just holding on by his fingertips, but they managed to grab him and pull him to safety.

After the event, Lionel told the BBC that "The guy that looks after the pier came running into the bar where we were having a drink and said, 'Can anybody help me? There's a guy trying to commit suicide'".

"We got there and there was a man clinging on," added Carr.

Blair continued: "We got his hand and said, 'Come on, you don't want to die. You can't do that. Listen to us'. He did a double take, but then said, 'No I want to go'. So I got one arm and you [turning to Alan Carr] got the other."

Lancashire Police confirmed there was an incident at the North Pier on Wednesday night and that a man was arrested but then returned uninjured to his family.

Imagine that. You're so desperate to escape from existence that you are prepared to throw yourself into a deep, dark watery grave when Lionel Blair and Alan Carr both run at you.
